The Tennessee State Legislature Reconvenes

Tennessee legislators reconvened in Nashville on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, to begin the 2022 legislative session. In accordance with the Tennessee Constitution, the General Assembly reconvenes each year on the second Tuesday of January. The 112th General Assembly began last year, in January of 2021, and members recessed in May 2021 after the first half of the bill-making was finished. The legislature met again multiple times in special sessions last year. This return marks the official launch of the second half of the 112th General Assembly.

Legislative members are eager to get back into policymaking. Several topics of interest include redrawing legislative districts with 2020 US Census information, revising the state’s education funding formula, and managing federal funds through programs such as the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. TCSA will be monitoring state legislation that affects county interests, and we will be in touch with regular legislative updates.
