Senate, House Elect Speakers for 111th General Assembly
The state Senate and House began the business of the 111th General Assembly this week, January 8, and elected speakers of their respective bodies. Sen. Randy McNally was reelected lieutenant governor for a second two-year term, while Rep. Glen Casada was elected House speaker. In the House chambers for the ceremonies were past speakers Beth Harwell, Jimmy Naifeh, Kent Williams and Bill Jenkins.
The legislature will continue its work through this week, recess until Jan. 18-19 when they come back for the inauguration of new Gov. Bill Lee. The House will then return for session on Jan. 23, while the Senate has announced it will return Jan. 28 to take up business.
