NACo Conference Recap from TN Officials

July 29, 2022

Last week, TCSA Director David Connor and TCHOA Director Brett Howell traveled to Adams County, Colorado for the National Association of Counties (NACo) Annual Conference. Officials from seven Tennessee counties attended, and they enjoyed presentations and workshops on a wide array of topics impacting county government. Two of the Tennesseans at the conference were presenters. Knox County Commissioner Dasha Lundy participated as a panel member for a discussion entitled Sports Arenas and Entertainment Centers: Securing Benefits and Avoiding Pitfalls for Counties. In addition, Dorcas Young Griffon, Director of Community Services in Shelby County, was part of a program on Integrating the National 988 Hotline and County Behavioral Health Continuums of Care.

The conference included extended meetings of all the various NACo standing policy committees, a massive trade show of exhibitors of goods and services for counties, several days of educational sessions, regional meetings, and multiple general sessions. During the annual business meeting, the NACo membership voted on changes and additions to the association’s American County Platform and elected a new 2nd VP to the slate of officers.

If you would like to get involved with one of the NACo standing policy committees, notify us. TCSA can submit names to be added to the policy steering committees. There are numerous other boards, committees and task forces that are appointed by the NACo president. Information about all of these opportunities to get involved with NACo can be found HERE.
